Even though the 2011 election is over, it’s good to keep in mind our records – local Democratic vs. Republican teams
Failed Democratic policies of the past – tax, borrow, spend (2002 – 2009 ; by Louise Wilson and her team):
- Increased municipal taxes by over 30% during their last 3 years of control
- Increased debt to over $60 million, the highest in the entire county
- Depleted our surplus by 75% – $15 million wasted
- Pushed for high density housing on Skillman Village property – meaning hundreds of additional kids in our schools, causing our property taxes to skyrocket
- During their 8+ years in control, they never televised Township Committee meetings or even posted audio files for the public to listen to online
AND YOU CAN EXPECT MORE OF THE SAME IN THE FUTURE – THEY BELIEVE THAT BIG GOVERNMENT KNOWS BEST AND MEETINGS SHOULD BE INACCESSIBLE!
The new normal in Montgomery under Republican leadership – better, smarter, government (2010 – present):
- Kept municipal taxes essentially flat during the past few years – only 4% of NJ towns have accomplished this
- Reduced municipal spending to below 2004 levels without impacting services
- Saved taxpayers close to $200,000 a year through sharing and consolidation services (including the recent municipal court consolidation plan with Hillsborough that will save $70,000 – $80,000 a year)
- Sold Skillman Village to the county, creating the 247-acre Skillman Park and generating $14 million for debt relief
- Began posting audio files of Township Committee meetings, increased use of ebulletins, and currently working on a cost-effective way to televise meetings
THE CHOICE IS CLEAR – THE GOP TEAM WILL KEEP MONTGOMERY MOVING FORWARD AND ALLOW THE PUBLIC TO WATCH OR LISTEN TO MEETINGS WHENEVER THEY WANT!

The Montgomery Democratic Party’s Record of Campaign Falsehoods
Once Louise Wilson and her team started losing elections, their campaigns started to become nastier and nastier, focusing less on facts and more on false claims meant to shock and scare voters. Let’s look at their Hall of Shame:
2009 – Falsely claimed that selling Skillman Village to the county for a park would cause 3,000 new homes to be built in town – well, the deal is complete, Skillman Park is official, so where are all of these houses? Hmm…..
2010 – Falsely claimed that Mayor Caliguire was “secretly meeting” with developers – when confronted with this claim, the “secret meeting” that was cited was actually attended by Louise Wilson herself and numerous township professionals.
2010 – Falsely claimed that the revised COAH Housing Plan would cause 700+ new houses to be built – in reality, the revised plan caused NO INCREASE in housing, just as the Republicans claimed all along.
2011 – Falsely claimed that the Republican Township Committee was secretly planning to eliminate the Montgomery Police Department – yes, this one wins an award for craziness.
2011 – Falsely claimed that the Republican Township Committee was against making meetings more accessible to the public – the Democrats were in control for almost a decade and never televised meetings or linked audio files to the town’s website – both things we have already done or are working on!
2012 – TBD – but sadly, there will be likely more such claims made, so be prepared!
We have tracked the Democrats’ wild campaign claims to remind you, the voters of Montgomery, of their pattern of behavior. Have any of these claims come true? Even partially? Heck no! So beware in 2012. Don’t give them the benefit of the doubt, they don’t deserve it.
